What issues do you specialize in?

Momentum Mindfulness focuses on men’s emotional and mental wellbeing, including stress, anxiety, burnout, relationship struggles, addiction and compulsive behaviours, emotional regulation, confidence rebuilding, communication challenges, and life direction. Every session is tailored to men who want to better understand themselves, improve their relationships, and create a healthier, more grounded life.

How does online counselling work?

Sessions take place through a secure video platform. After booking, you receive a confirmation email with your session link, and at your appointment time you simply click to join. No downloads or complicated setup are required, and all communication is encrypted. Online counselling allows you to access consistent support from anywhere in Canada.

Do I need a referral to begin?

You do not need a referral. You can book your first session directly at any time, without waiting lists or medical steps. The process is simple, private, and designed to help you begin quickly.

What happens in the first session?

The first session focuses on understanding your goals, challenges, history, and what brought you in. You are not expected to have everything figured out. We explore your concerns together and outline a direction for support. Most clients leave feeling more understood and grounded.

How long is each session?

Each session lasts 50 minutes, giving enough time to explore challenges, build skills, and create meaningful steps forward without feeling rushed.

How often should I book sessions?

Most clients begin with weekly or bi-weekly sessions to build momentum. Over time, many transition to monthly or occasional check-ins as they maintain their progress. Your schedule can always be adjusted to match your needs and comfort.

Are sessions confidential?

Yes. All sessions follow strict Canadian privacy standards. Nothing you share is disclosed to anyone unless you request it, or unless safety laws require it for your protection or the protection of others.

What makes your approach different from traditional therapy?

Shaun Morrison is a trusted men’s mental health practitioner in Alberta and BC and uses a practical, grounded approach that blends counselling with mindfulness, emotional regulation techniques, communication skills, and solution-focused guidance. The goal is to help you grow, gain clarity, and make meaningful changes — not spend months analyzing without direction.

Do you only work with men?

Yes. Momentum Mindfulness is dedicated to supporting men, which allows for a deep understanding of the pressures, expectations, and emotional experiences that men face. This specialization helps create a targeted and effective counselling experience.

Is online counselling effective?

Yes. Research shows online counselling is equally effective as in-person therapy for issues like anxiety, stress, addiction, emotional regulation, and relationship concerns. Many men find it more comfortable, accessible, and consistent than in-person sessions.

What if I’m nervous about starting?

Feeling nervous is completely normal. Sessions are relaxed and conversational, and there’s no pressure to share more than you’re ready for. Most men report feeling far more comfortable after just a few minutes in their first session.

What if I don’t know how to talk about my emotions?

You don’t need to know where to start. Many men struggle with expressing emotions, and part of the work is building emotional awareness at a manageable pace. You are supported throughout the process without judgment.

Can counselling help with addiction?

Yes. Counselling can support recovery from substance use, pornography addiction, gambling, overworking, and other compulsive behaviours. Sessions focus on understanding triggers, building healthier coping strategies, and creating long-term structure and accountability.

Can counselling help my relationship?

Yes. Individual counselling can significantly improve communication, emotional awareness, and relationship dynamics, even if your partner is not attending sessions. Many men see positive changes at home as they grow personally.

Do you offer couples therapy?

Momentum Mindfulness focuses on individual counselling for men. However, the skills you develop — such as communication, emotional regulation, and clarity — often directly strengthen your relationship.

What if my partner wants to know what we discuss?

You decide what you share. Sessions are confidential, and nothing is communicated to your partner unless you choose to do so. If you would like guidance on healthy communication, this can be part of your work together.

Do you help with anger or irritability?

Yes. Many clients seek help with anger, frustration, and emotional overwhelm. Counselling focuses on understanding triggers, building self-control tools, practicing grounding strategies, and responding rather than reacting.

Do you offer support for burnout and stress?

Yes. Burnout is extremely common among men balancing work, family, and responsibilities. Counselling helps you manage overwhelm, rebuild energy, set healthier boundaries, and create routines that prevent burnout from returning.

Can I book a single session?

Yes. You are welcome to book one session to get a feel for the process. Many men continue once they experience the clarity and support counselling provides.

What is your cancellation policy?

Sessions can be rescheduled or cancelled with reasonable notice, typically 24 hours. Late cancellations or missed sessions may be subject to a fee to protect the counsellor’s time and availability.

Do you offer sliding-scale pricing?

Pricing is intentionally set to be more accessible than industry standards. If you are experiencing financial difficulty, you can reach out to discuss possible options depending on availability.

Can I use insurance for sessions?

Some insurance providers cover online counselling or psychotherapy. You can request a receipt to submit to your provider. Because plans vary, it’s recommended to check your coverage directly with your insurer.

How do I know if counselling is working?

Progress shows up as feeling calmer, reacting differently to stress, communicating more clearly, or making healthier decisions. We check in regularly to ensure sessions align with your goals and adjust your plan as needed.

Can I talk about multiple concerns at once?

Yes. You do not need to limit yourself to a single issue. Many men work on a combination of stress, relationship challenges, addiction patterns, confidence, and emotional awareness. Counselling supports you as a whole person.

What if I want to break unhealthy habits?

We explore the emotional and situational triggers behind the habit, build coping strategies, practice mindfulness, and create structure that supports long-term change. You receive personalized guidance and accountability.

Do you help with confidence and self-esteem?

Yes. Many clients come to rebuild confidence after setbacks, life changes, or long-term stress. Counselling helps clarify values, strengthen identity, and build inner stability so confidence grows naturally and sustainably.

Can counselling help me find purpose or direction?

Yes. Many men feel stuck or unsure about their next steps in life. Sessions help you clarify goals, understand what truly matters to you, and build a realistic plan toward a meaningful, purposeful direction.

What if I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t help?

Every counsellor has a different approach. Momentum Mindfulness focuses on practical, forward-moving strategies specifically designed for men. Many clients who didn’t feel understood elsewhere find this method far more relatable and effective.
